About Joel Selwood

Courageous Geelong midfielder Joel Selwood, is one of the most highly regarded players in the AFL. He is the perfect combination of old school grunt and modern-day skill; tough and uncompromising, yet dynamic and skilful. Joel made his AFL debut in 2007, winning the AFL Rising Star Award and AFLPA Best First Year Player Award.

In just over 150 games for the Geelong Football Club, he has become a triple premiership player, triple All-Australian, a dual Club Best and Fairest winner and a three-time recipient of the AFLPA Robert Rose Most Courageous Player Award. At the age of 23 Joel was appointed captain of the Geelong Football Club, an honour reflective of his exceptional leadership qualities and work ethic.

Away from the football scene, Joel likes to spend time with his family and friends. Originating from Bendigo, Joel often heads back home to see his family whilst also spending time in the local community. Joel has three brothers, all having been listed with AFL clubs; two older brothers, twins Adam (recently retired from West Coast), Troy (Formerly of the Brisbane Lions & currently the Geelong VFL Captain) and a younger brother, Scott (currently West Coast). Whilst Joel and his brothers are all close, when it comes time to compete on the footy field, they all have a strong competitive nature about them.
